What's Going On - Music, Events & Activities 2014

IMPORTANT NOTE FROM WVGUIDE

Happy New Year to you all, and thank you for your support and emails over the last few years.

We are a non profit organisation and this site is run by me and my wife during our spare time. We both have full time careers to manage, and finding the spare time to update this website is proving to be challenging. We have decided to stop all activity on this site and only update the twitter feed.

As we continue to receive over 5,000 visits a month this site will remain live as a source of resourceful information and only information on the existing pages will be updated as and when appropriate.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In this section we will do our best to let you know what is happening on a regular basis. There are so many diverse activities and events taking place in and around Walthamstow Village, from comedy nights to life drawing, and of course the live music scene.
Each month we will suggest things to keep you entertained. So take a look and keep an eye out for additions to the schedule.
If you see something you like then please share with your friends or if you would like to let us know about something exciting that is happening locally then please email us at wv.guide@gmail.com

About The Show
Phantom is a musical with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston and a book by Arthur Kopit. Based on Gaston Leroux's 1910 novel The Phantom of the Opera. Phantom tells the heart-rending tale of Eric – disfigured from birth but as beautiful on the inside as he is misshapen on the outside. Raised from youth and hidden in the crypts and lagoons beneath the Paris Opera, the adult Eric has an inner beauty reflecting the music that all his life has wafted down from the stage above and has sustained him. When an untalented egomaniacal Diva takes over the Opera, the musical world so dear to his life is shattered. He seeks a voice and a singer to restore the only beauty he’s ever known and finds it in Christine Daiae whom he musically trains and with whom he falls in love.

Spring Fair, Friday 17 May at the Asian Centre, E17, 7-10pm

Our annual May event presents a cornucopia of art and designer craft.

After a successful event to help raise funds for the newly opened William Morris Gallery in Lloyd Park, E17 Designers make a welcome return to its regular home in the heart of Walthamstow village: the Asian Centre on Orford Road.

The E17 Designers Spring Fair offers a bountiful array of beautiful, artful products,
all made locally – and a shopping experience that successfully combines the best elements of a church bazaar, uptown department store and exclusive design event.

Designers, both first-timers and regulars (including the ever-popular Suzie’s Kitchen), will be on hand to offer you the very best excuse for spending money.

If you haven’t visited for a while (and where have you been?), you are in for a treat with a dozen new designers on board this year. If you are a regular visitor, then you already know this is the borough’s hottest spot for one night only – a great evening out, sociable shopping and service with a smile from E17 Designers.

Saturday 12th October 10:00 am-3:00 pm.

The market stall outside the Hornbeam Centre on Saturdays sells organic and ultra-local sustainably grown fruit and vegetables, plus homemade bread, jams and preserves from 10am - 3pm.
It’s a buzzing space, where buying fresh produce is an enjoyable activity and where information about food can be freely shared.
The produce we sell comes from:
- Soil Association certified organic farms in East Anglia and their partners in Europe
- Ultra-local London growers sharing their surplus through our Cropshare scheme
- Our own Hawkwood site in Chingford.
Healthy Start vouchers can be used to buy fruit and vegetables at the stalls or box scheme.

Apple Day
Saturday 12th October 2013

Now in its 13th year, Apple Day is at the ‘core’ of the Walthamstow Village’s celebrations, and takes place 11-4pm on Saturday 12th October 2013; as usual it will be held in the beautiful gardens of Vestry House Museum E17 9NH.
This celebration of everything “appley” drew over 1,300 visitors last year, and is a buzzing, local, family-oriented event which distributes funds raised to good causes in the area. So do come and join us for some apple activities and apple-tastic refreshments.
Activities this year will include traditional games such as apple bobbing, a challenge to make the longest length of apple peel, guess the weight (3 different sizes of apple), and William Tell … hit the apple using a bow and arrow. There will also be candle rolling, and the ever popular apple crushing & juicing using Organiclea’s press, as well as tattoos and face painting.
As in previous years, there will be a special craft activity tent for younger children where they can recycle card packaging & magazines to make small carrier bags and decorate them in a fun way.
On sale in the refreshment hall will be many cakes & deserts baked by local people and students from Waltham Forest College, and locally produced honey, jams & chutneys. To balance the sugar intake Hornbeam Cafe will be serving healthy vegetarian savoury food & snacks, and offering the opportunity to slake your thirst at its organic cider bar.
Additionally there will be organic apple tasting & sales, eco books, plant sales, apple tree sales & advice, and stalls run by Vestry House Museum Gardeners, WF LETS, Transition Walthamstow and Friends of the Earth.
We will hear musical performances from Chris Hill, Tori Freestone and Jez Franks, and The Singing Room choir.
Suggested donation is £1 per adult, which also includes entry into a raffle; children get in free.
